Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards - 2007
In March 2007 Thistle Seafoods entered a number of products for these awards and was successful in two categories, taking the Gold in the Aberdeen City Award for a Healthy Eating Product Specifically Developed for Children in 2006 with our Kids' Fish Nuggets, and a Bronze in the awards for a New Retail Product Launched in 2006 with our Herring in Oat Flake Crumb. Both products were developed for J Sainsbury's supermarket.

The combination of Scottish herring, which is full of Omega 3 oil, and oats, which actively reduce cholesterol, has ensured the successful development of a healthy chilled seafood product for J Sainsbury’s “Be Good to Yourself” range.
Each pack contains two Scottish herring fillets in a crispy breadcrumb and oatflake coating. |
The winners of the Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards were announced on 14th March 2007 by Mr Ken McMeikan, Retail Director of Sainsbury’s, at the awards dinner held at the Marcliffe Hotel & Spa, Aberdeen.
Ken McMeikan judged products along with Ronald McDonald, Managing Director of Craig Group Foodservice, and Natalie Minnis, editor of The Scottish Grocer. They spent the day tasting and assessing over 40 new products from 20 north east food and drink companies.
Around 195 guests from the local food and drink industry, retail and foodservice sectors attended the dinner, where Ken McMeikan addressed the audience and also announced the winners.
Ken McMeikan said, “I loved today the enthusiasm of the entrants and the overwhelming quality of products has been outstanding. It is incredibly inspiring to spend time with so many passionate people who care so deeply about food. Grampian’s future continues to be in safe hands with such great innovators.”
The Grampian Food Forum Awards, now in their seventeenth year, were launched to foster the north east’s tradition of innovative food production, and to provide an arena for the area’s food producers to have their new products displayed to leading names in the industry.
